G.A. West's sister company, Legacy Equipment is looking for a highly skilled Crane Technician with expertise in hydraulic rough terrain, all-terrain, truck-mounted, and crawler cranes. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills, along with experience working on various types of mobile lifting equipment. You will be responsible for maintaining, inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing complex crane systems in both shop and field settings. Your role will directly contribute to maximizing the uptime and operational efficiency of our crane fleet.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspection & Diagnostics:
- Perform routine inspections and troubleshooting on hydraulic rough terrain, all-terrain, truck-mounted, and crawler cranes.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, including boom, winch, hoist, and drive systems.
- Conduct load tests, safety inspections, and preventive maintenance per manufacturer guidelines and safety regulations (OSHA, ANSI, etc.).
- Repairs & Maintenance:
- Repair and maintain crane components such as engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, booms, control systems, and undercarriage systems.
- Perform hydraulic system overhauls, including pumps, valves, and cylinders.
- Repair electrical control systems, including wiring, sensors, and crane monitoring systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair powertrain components (engine, transmission, axles) on truck-mounted cranes.
- Field Service & Customer Interaction:
- Respond to emergency service calls and perform on-site diagnostics and repairs.
- Collaborate with service managers to plan and prioritize field service work.
- Communicate with customers regarding crane repairs, safety issues, and operational recommendations.
- Documentation & Compliance:
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance work performed, parts replaced, and inspections conducted.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, manufacturer specifications, and local regulations.
- Complete service reports and track inventory for parts and tools.
- Collaboration & Safety:
- Work closely with other technicians and shop staff to ensure high-quality repairs and efficiency.
- Follow safety protocols including lockout/tagout, PPE requirements, and fall protection during crane repair and maintenance tasks.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required (Technical certification in heavy equipment or crane maintenance preferred).
- 3+ years of hands-on experience working on hydraulic rough terrain, all-terrain, truck-mounted, and/or crawler cranes.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems used in mobile cranes.
- Experience working with hydraulic pumps, valves, cylinders, and associated components.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and under various weather conditions.
- Physical capability to lift 50+ lbs, and work in challenging field environments.
- Must be able to pass background checks, drug testing, and safety training.
Preferred Certifications:
- OSHA 10/30 Certification
- Hydraulic and Electrical troubleshooting certifications
